Arizona Oncology Announces a New Flagstaff Location | AZ Daily Sun

August 19, 2024

Arizona Oncology announced a new Flagstaff location for its cancer care on Tuesday, alongside its hiring of a pair of medical oncologists who will be practicing there.

Arizona Oncology is a statewide advanced cancer care provider with more than 20 office locations, including in Prescott, Tucson, and Goodyear. Among its services are medical, radiation, gynecologic and breast surgical oncology, colorectal surgery, hematology, urology, clinical trials, and high-risk cancer and patient ancillary programs.

“We are one of the largest groups of medical professionals in Arizona devoted to providing compassionate cancer care and breakthrough research close to where patients live and work,” the announcement said.

The Flagstaff office is located at 77 W. Forest Ave., No. 301. Appointments can be scheduled by calling (928) 635-7307 or online at arizonaoncology.com.

Medical oncologists Peter Mathern, MD, and Sarah Conlon, MD, are joining the team at this new location and will begin seeing patients in Flagstaff.

According to the announcement, Conlon has been practicing medicine since 2009 and treats all types of cancers and blood disorders. She has been published in peer-reviewed publications such as the Journal of Urology and has participated in research on blood disorders.

“The patient and their families are at the heart of my medical practice,” she said in the announcement.

She received a medical degree from the University of Vermont and completed an internship and internal medicine residency at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, as well as a fellowship in oncology and hematology at the University of California, Davis, where she was named chief fellow.

Mathern treats all solid tumor cancers and lymphoma, with a specialization in bone marrow biopsies.

He started practicing medicine in Arizona in 1996 and has worked in both urgent care and hospital services, including service on the medical executive committees of the Mohave Valley Hospital and Medical Center and the Western Arizona Regional Medical Center.

“I was drawn to oncology because the research is constantly evolving in ways that allow us to make a significant impact on our patients’ lives,” Mathern said in the announcement.

He received a medical degree from Charles University Medical School, and completed an internship at the General Hospital of Bratislava County and rheumatology research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, as well as a residency in internal medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and another fellowship, in oncology and hematology, at Boston University Medical Center.
