BIOGRAPHY

Jillian O’Donnell, MD earned her medical degree from McGovern Medical School before completing her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She also completed her gynecologic oncology fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

Dr. O’Donnell treats gynecological cancers, including ovarian, uterine, cervical, vaginal, vulvar, and other cancers of the female reproductive tract. She specializes in the comprehensive surgical management of gynecological cancers, including both open and minimally invasive or robotic surgeries.

During her residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Dr. O’Donnell was a member of the Medical Student Education Committee, where she organized and participated in educational activities for third-year medical students. She also served as chair of the Ethics Committee, where she organized educational activities related to ethical issues in obstetrics and gynecology. She received the UAB resident research award for best abstract in 2016 and best presentation in 2019. During her fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. O’Donnell received the award for best research project by a fellow in 2022. The same year, she received the Golden Tarheel, which is awarded by medical students to fellows and faculty in the UNC medical system for dedication and excellence in medical student education.

Dr. O’Donnell is committed to contributing to the wider community of gynecological oncologists. In December 2020, she was invited to speak for the International Gynecologic Cancer Society Project ECHO Virtual Tumor Board in Danang, Vietnam, presenting “BRCA Mutations for the Gynecologic Oncologist.” She presented “Surgical Management of Vulvar Cancer” to the same group in June 2021. She is a current member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the Society of Gynecologic Oncology.


PHILOSOPHY

Dr. O’Donnell strives to build a relationship with each patient and their loved ones. She believes understanding each individual’s goals and values is integral to providing high-quality, personalized care. She is passionate about providing comprehensive care, starting with the initial diagnosis and treatment through surgery, medical management, and supportive care. Dr. O’Donnell became a physician for the opportunity to interact with, learn from, and serve others; gynecologic oncology is a field where she can do that in the hospital, the operating room, and the clinic while interfacing with a diverse group of patients and providers. She is thrilled to serve patients at Arizona Oncology, where she can provide access to the best and latest technologies in a convenient and accessible community setting. Dr. O’Donnell believes it is a privilege to support her patients throughout their cancer journey.

Outside of medicine, Dr. O’Donnell loves spending time with her family, traveling, and enjoying the outdoors. She is passionate about music, food and wine, and crafts—be sure to ask her about her latest knitting project!
