Biography

Ian Komenaka, MD, FACS is a breast surgical oncologist at Arizona Oncology. After graduating from Cornell University, Dr. Komenaka earned his medical degree from the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine in Honolulu. He completed his internship and residency in general surgery at New York Methodist Hospital where he served as chief resident. Dr. Komenaka finished his fellowship in breast surgical oncology at Columbia University Presbyterian Hospital in New York.

Dr. Komenaka specializes in breast cancer and genetic cancer risk assessment. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Association for Cancer Research, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Breast Surgeons, Association for Academic Surgery, and the Society of Surgical Oncology, as well as serving as associate professor of clinical surgery at the University of Arizona Cancer Center.

Philosophy

Dr. Komenaka believes in compassionate, evidence-based patient care that is tailored to each individual patient. His goal is to provide patients with information in order to come to a shared decision for the best outcome.

In his spare time, Dr. Komenaka is interested in fitness, nutrition, and martial arts.
