Dr. Weiss discovered a love for science and engineering early on at the University of Southern California, where he attended as a Presidential Scholar. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in Biomedical Engineering, then attended medical school as a Dean’s Scholar at the University of Iowa. From there he did his internship and residency at the University of Arizona’s Banner University Medical Center (formally known as Banner Good Samaritan). He then completed a one-year Anorectal Fellowship at the University of Southern California with a focus on pelvic floor. Additionally, he completed his Colorectal Surgical Fellowship at the University of Ohio before returning to Phoenix to join Pinnacle Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
With a passion for utilizing technology effectively to minimize the patients’ pain and improve the speed of recovery, Dr. Weiss specializes in laparoendoscopic (minimally invasive) treatment of colon and rectal disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal malignancies and benign anorectal diseases. He is skilled in robotic assisted da Vinci Surgery techniques and performs rubber band ligation for internal hemorrhoids and Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEMS) for the removal of rectal tumors and early-stage rectal cancers. He also regularly performs screening colonoscopy for the early detection of colon cancer.
Dr. Weiss is also an adjunct faculty member of the Phoenix Integrated Surgery Residency program at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center and is the Field Director for the Colorectal Clinical Externships. He is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the America Colorectal Surgeons, and he has presented at the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons conference in Boston, as well as the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons in Washington DC.
Dr. Weiss and his wife are active members of the Phoenix community and have a son and two daughters in middle and elementary school.
