John L. Bibb, M.D., a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist, has joined Arizona Oncology. Dr. Bibb specializes in the treatments of all cancers along with benign and malignant hematology. He has particular interests in lung, colon, breast cancers and multiple myeloma.
Dr. Bibb is an active researcher and enjoys investigating new treatments that lengthen patients’ lives.
"Understanding the research aspects of hematology and oncology is a plus," he says. "New research is advancing all the time, and it's important to keep on top of it."
Like other physicians at Arizona Oncology, Dr. Bibb strongly encourages patients to participate in their own care.
“Patient’s opinions and decisions are incredibly important,” says Dr. Bibb. “I see a wide variety of people of different ages and backgrounds with a broad spectrum of problems and I feel strongly that good communication is the key in establishing a fruitful relationship and providing the best medical care.”
In graduate school at the University of Texas-El Paso, Dr. Bibb became interested in hematology while working with rattlesnake venom and its potential uses on breaking up blood clots.
“I knew that hematology/oncology was my calling after being exposed to oncology during my clinical rotations in medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin.”
He has published several articles in medical journals and was the lead author in a piece published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
Arizona Oncology’s Phoenix division has a high concentration of Spanish-speaking patients and Dr. Bibb is known for being one of the only fluent Spanish-speaking oncologists in the valley. In the past he's done volunteer work in a rehabilitation mission in Juarez, Mexico.
In 2012, Dr. Bibb was recognized by Phoenix Magazine as one of Phoenix’s “Top Docs” in hematology/oncology.
A father of four, Dr. Bibb married his high school sweetheart and loves watching his children play flag football and swim.
He has resided in the Phoenix area for several years and is familiar with its community and health needs.
“Arizona Oncology is a well respected group and I’m looking forward to having these doctors as colleagues and to collaborate with them.”
