PHOENIX, AZ, Dec. 2, 2019 - Arizona Oncology is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Edgar D. Staren, as chief of operations, building on its mission to provide comprehensive cancer care throughout Arizona. Dr. Staren brings more than 30 years of oncology experience to Arizona Oncology including numerous executive leadership roles, academic appointments, committees, honors, awards and publications.
Most recently, he served as president of TransMed7, a minimal access medical technology company addressing patient needs from diagnosis to therapy. Previously, he held leadership positions as chief medical officer, chief executive officer of the Western Regional Medical Center, and chief executive officer of medicine and science for Cancer Treatment Centers of America; professor of surgery, vice president and executive director for Cancer Services at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center; and professor, chairman of surgery and medical director of the cancer institute at the Medical College of Ohio.

In addition to his leadership and clinical experience, Dr. Staren has published nearly 300 scientific works including more than 150 manuscripts, 80+ abstracts, 45 book chapters, and 12 books.

Dr. Staren is a board-certified surgeon who earned his medical degree from Loyola University School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery training and fellowship in surgical oncology at Rush University Medical Center and Cook County Hospitals. He completed additional graduate education including his doctorate of immunology/microbiology from Rush Medical College and a masters of business administration from Benedictine University.
